Southern Performance Volleyball Academy Information
Video: Learn about SPVB and what to expect for your daughter.
The Southern Performance fall training program is designed to improve & retain player skills during the off season. Unfortunately in Alabama, if you play for your school, you can't participate in group lessons until the season is over. But you can join our fall training once that season is done. Fall training has ended for 2017.
Indoor Volleyball Season
The Southern Performance indoor volleyball season runs from January to June. Teams normally compete locally and around the southeast. Top level teams also travel around the country. Tryouts for teams are normally in October & November depending on your age group. There are 3 levels of competition, College Prep (15-18), Scholastic Prep (13-14) and Youth Academy (12 & under). Tuition Assistance: Fundraising
As a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, families that play for SPVB are allowed to ask for donations to be applied to a child's fee from individuals and companies. These donations are tax deductible for donors. Southern Performance also offers an option for parents to supplement the cost of tuition. Fundraising efforts will be provided throughout the season. In the past, these have included popcorn tins, oranges, cozies and much more. We will let you know when this year's fundraising ideas are ready.
Our players get to play in the sand. Yep! Southern Performance Volleyball Academy is the ONLY club offering sand training and competition locally. Sand season runs from May - July. Top finishing teams may receive National Qualifying bids.
Youth Academy (YA) is for ages 12 and under. The director of YA is Adriane Wheat. The Southern Performance Youth Academy has 4 levels: Volley-Tykes (Coed 3-5 year olds), Volley-Tots (Coed K-2nd grade), Level 1- Mini Volleyball (Coed 3rd & 4th grade) and Level 2 – Youth Development (Coed 5th & 6th grade). Emphasis is placed on hand-eye coordination and base technique development needed for later years.
A Message from Our Director
Hello, my name is Julie Myers-Dailey. I have grown up in Birmingham and very proud to still call Birmingham my home. I played at Bush Middle School, Ramsay High School and UAB. I have been coaching Junior Olympic Volleyball in Birmingham for over 30 years now. My college coach Brenda Williams from UAB encouraged us to coach while we were college players and it became one of the best experiences of my life and has become a lifelong passion.
I began Team Sting, now Southern Performance Volleyball Academy, in 2003 and initiated the process of making Birmingham a regional and national volleyball destination. We have amazing athletes here in our area. My desire, as well as our coaches, is to provide the most intense, fundamental and technical coaching in the southeast while helping develop these young ladies by competing against the hardest players around the country. As shown with hundreds of scholarships offered to our players, Southern Performance is dedicated to a high level of expectations. Southern Performance was the first club in the state of Alabama to receive a collegiate sand scholarship and most of our teams that play every summer receive National Qualifying bids.
Southern Performance has a steady flow of college coaches that come through our gym and that watch our players at tournaments all across the country. Although a college scholarship is the ultimate goal for many of our players, we are committed to building the best high school and middle school players in the area. Many of our players are All Metro Tournament Middle School Players, All County Middle School Players and All State, All Area, All Region and All Metro High School Players.
On the national indoor level, SPVB has won two AAU National Championships, the most recent in 2017. We are a club of integrity and solid foundational instructors with an enormous amount of experience. Our goal is to lead your daughter to love the game of volleyball while learning commitment, hard work, determination and leadership to be the best young lady they can be.
